Detectives conducting investigations on police station raid

The government is conducting investigations on a raid in a police station by armed Administration Police in Mandera County.

The Friday incident involved 14 AP officers in full combat gear, who were out to rescue their colleague who had been arrested in connection to Takbir petrol station robbery that had occurred a day earlier.

The petrol station was allegedly raided on Thursday by uniformed people in police regalia.

Subsequently, the administration police attached to Kapedo Rural Border Patrol Unit (RBPU) camp stormed the Mandera police station demanding the release of their colleague who had been arrested on suspicion of the said incident.

Mandera East Deputy County Commissioner Lawrence Omondi speaking to KNA over the weekend in Mandera town said investigations are ongoing and those found culpable will face the law.

Omondi did not divulge full details about the incident but was quick to add that government detectives will soon get to the bottom of the matter.

Meanwhile, county leaders and residents have asked the government to expeditiously bring to book, criminals behind a spate of robberies that have rocked the town in the past two weeks.

Governor Ali Roba decried recent spate of robberies in the region, adding that the crime was slowly replacing terrorism.
