Tharaka-Nithi County Suspends Services

The County Government of Tharaka Nithi has suspended some of the services in the County offices as a measure to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The Services such as water provision will no longer be available for inquiries in the offices. The staff have been released to work from home.

Speaking in Igambang’ombe Ward, Governor Muthomi Njuki, said the only services that will remain in operation are hospitals, revenue collection and garbage collection. This is due to the critical roles the services play in the County.

According to the Governor, construction of roads will be done by trucks and those who offer hand services have been dismissed.

He added that it is important to adhere to the measures put in place, saying doing so would enable the situation to return back to normal faster.

A majority of people in the frontline have been hit hard, including public officials and church leaders.

“The church was the first place to be hit by the virus,” said the Governor.

The Tharaka Nithi County is one of the few counties with enough oxygen and hospital beds are not full to capacity. He urged residents to visit hospitals in case they develop unusual ill-health symptoms.

The Governor encouraged the residents to wear masks and maintain social distance. He dismissed rumors that he had contracted Covid-19.
