Ford Kenya Party leader Moses Wetang’ula said that no single community in the country can ascend to the top seat without forming coalitions.
Wetang’ula called on other leaders to join the ‘One Kenya Movement’ and offer alternative leadership beyond the next general election. “We have an agenda that cannot be fulfilled without having like-minded people forming coalitions,” he said.
Wetang’ula said it is the right time for ODM leader Raila Odinga to support his NASA counterparts in 2022 after receiving overwhelming support from the trio in past elections.
He asked ODM leader Raila Odinga to show good will and support one of them for the top seat.
“Raila was supported by Kalonzo, Mudavadi and I for ten years, he should also reciprocate and support us in 2022,” Wetang’ula said.
He faulted the county government of Bungoma for failure to use public coffers prudently.
He said the report released by the Controller of Budget that Covid-19 funds were mismanaged is damning.
“We just want to see the right things done. The matter is headed to the Senate and it is embarrassing for Lusaka and I to preside over this matter,” said Wetang’ula.
“When we say do the right things it is not because we don’t like you but love to see you do the right thing,” he said
He said the lock down will be meaningless if the government does not embark on mass vaccination to fight the pandemic. “We need prayers but it is not enough, the government must be proactive,” he said.
He said parliament has 10 MPs affected by Covid-19 adding that if the disease is not controlled there will be more fatalities. The Senator asked the government to support the citizens during this rainy season to plant more food.
Speaker of the Senate Kenneth Lusaka said that his new found relationship with Senator Wetang’ula will remain intact beyond the general elections.
Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi said that he will not run for the Bungoma gubernatorial seat. Lusaka called on other leaders to unite and focus on development instead of wasting time on empty rhetoric.
He hailed the unity displayed by the people of Kabuchai for electing Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga adding that his victory has elevated the status of Senator Wetang’ula as a political kingpin.
“Thank you for voting for Kalasinga as your MP. Had you failed to vote for him, you would have automatically killed his political career.”
Other MPs who attended the funeral were Trans Nzoia women MP Janet Nangabo, Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi, Luhyia council of elders chairman Patrick Wangamati and a series of MCAs from Bungoma and Trans Nzoia Sub Counties.
Conspicuously absent were Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi and Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu who staged a coup in the party last year to dethrone Senator Wetang’ula.
