Police are holding a man suspected to have sexually assaulted and killed a 75-year-old woman at Ihindu area.
The suspect identified as Moses Wainana is alleged to have broken into the old woman’s house at night as she slept and raped her leaving her for the dead.
Naivasha CID officer Aden Hassan said the elderly woman had been living alone for some years and the suspect may have taken advantage of the situation.
Aden further said the body of the woman which had bruises on the face and head was found lying on her bed by family members after her phone went unanswered.
Wainana was allegedly flashed from his hideout by irate residents a day after the incident.
The residents who wanted to lynch the suspect barricaded the busy Naivasha – Nakuru highway in frustrations after the police whisked the suspect away to Naivasha police station.
Adan said the police are hastening the investigations but cautioned the citizens against taking the law into their hands. “The citizens should let the rule of law take its course,” he warned.
Hassan said the suspect will be arraigned in court to face murder charges if a psychiatrist report ascertain he is fit to stand trial.
