Mandera county residents have been advised to make fortune out of their rich cultural values and practices.
Speaking at the closure of a three day cultural festival in Mandera town Tuesday, area county commissioner (CC) Mr. Kutswa Olaka said the region was a bed rock of rich cultural practices that could be used to help the county earn revenue.
Mr. Olaka said area communities could use the new found opportunity to develop Camel race that would attract local and foreign tourists in the region.
The CC said security had been restored in the region and it was time residents took the advantage to market the rich Somali culture.
He said other regions have been holding cultural exhibitions and congratulated Governor Ali Roba’s administration for holding the event for the first time in post independent Kenya.
The festival showcased Somali culture including houses, dance, camel transportation and traditional utensils among others.
