Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong is ready to serve the country in any capacity, if the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Constitutional Amendment Bill 2020 comes to realisation.
The second term governor who was addressing Obekai Gospel Restoration Church members in his Okilidu residence on Wednesday said the initiative proposes to expand the executive for inclusivity’s sake hence if given a chance he will serve Kenyans.
“The BBI proposes to create positions of Prime Minister and two deputies, ministers, assistant ministers and many others.
“I am ready to serve in any capacity if accorded an opportunity, having served as an assistant minister during my tenure as Amagoro MP,” Ojaamong said in yet another hint that he will vie as Teso South MP come 2022.
Ojaamong has been sending veiled messages to residents of Teso South signaling he may vie for a political seat in 2022 after exiting office as governor in 2022.
The current constitution does not bar governors who complete their two terms from contesting for other political positions including Member of the County Assembly, Senator, Member of Parliament, and Woman Representative for the case of females .
The governor was first elected as Amagoro MP on a NARC party ticket in 2002 after successfully defeating the then KANU MP Albert Ekirapa.
He was re-elected in the bloody 2007 general polls after which he successfully vied for the Busia gubernatorial position in 2013. He was subsequently re-elected in 2017.
Speculation over Ojaamong vying as MP in his home constituency of Teso South in 2022 has been the source of bad blood between him and the current MP Geoffrey Omuse.
