Government urged To Intervene Rising Fuel Prices

Members of the Baringo County Assembly (MCAs) have urged the national government to intervene and regulate fuel prices.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday in Kabarnet town, the MCAs led by Tenges Ward MCA Silas Tochim noted that the current rising cost of fuel is a burden to most Kenyans in this period when the economy has been affected by Covid-19 pandemic.

Tochim said government should take charge and control the fluctuating prices so that the common mwananchi is cushioned from its effects.

“Increasing fuel prices is very worrying especially at a time when the country is still coming to terms with the effects of Covid- 19 thus we are calling on the government to at least show some concern by regulating this once and for all,” he said.

Tochim noted that fuel prices in neighbouring countries like Uganda and Tanzania were much cheaper compared to Kenya whose citizens were being taxed highly.

He further stated that the life of ordinary mwananchi is becoming unbearable especially youth who lack employment opportunities due to low circulation of money in the country.

Reuben Chepsongol, Bartabwa MCA stated that proper legislation need to be implemented in Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) to control the rising fuel prices in kenya.

The government through EPRA on Sunday announced an increase in the prices of Super petrol, Diesel and Kerosene by Sh7.63, Sh5.75 and Sh5.41 per litre respectively.
