Members of the public have been urged to follow the law when dealing with corruption suspects.
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Vice Chair, Ms. Sophia Lepuchirit called on wananchi to be reporting cases of corruption instead of resorting to assaulting police officers alleged to be involved in corrupt dealings.
Speaking Sunday during commemoration of the International Anti-Corruption Day at the Meru National Polytechnic, Ms. Lepuchirit said it was disturbing that some members of the public were attacking law enforcers suspected of misconduct.
“As citizens you can aid EACC in the fight against graft by reporting or even preventing it from happening. However, this does not mean that you resort to assaulting law enforcement agencies which is illegal,” she appealed.
He regretted that graft had become a way of life saying some Kenyans had become so daring in even grabbing land owned by police stations.
“If somebody does not fear even grabbing land belonging to a police station, what else can they be afraid of?” she exclaimed.
She warned those acquiring public assets through illegal means that they shall be prosecuted and the grabbed property returned to the government.
She noted that the commission in 2017 managed to trace 14 illegally acquired public assets whose value is estimated at Sh2.3billion and the recovery process was ongoing.
