Women in the country have been challenged to go for political seats and stop waiting to be nominated.
Murang’a county woman representative Sabina Chege said women have needed qualifications which can enable them to occupy various political seats in this country.
She challenged women not to be ashamed when they get involved into politics saying women leaders have proved to be good performance in terms of service delivery in various sectors.
Chege who was accompanied by Teachers Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia in an event to mark World’s International Women Day at Ihura stadium in Murang’a observed that there is no need for nomination to attain third gender rule stating that women stand a better chance to be elected.
“Women may suffer in future if they wait to be nominated to occupy various positions. Let’s wake up and go for these seats. Some of us have been elected severally and there are high chances that Kenyans are embracing women leadership.
“It is the high time women come out in large numbers to contest for leadership positions,” she added.
Chege further observed that women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent in the world and thus their empowerment is a key milestone towards achieving a more equitable society.
The county women Representative further said young girls should be protected from sex pests citing increase of sexual abuse on school going children.
On her part TSC CEO Macharia said the commission is committed to promote women education at grassroots.
She noted that during recruitment of teachers, TSC usually tries to balance the number of males and females among those given jobs as teachers.
“TSC is one of the institutions that have managed to consider gender balance when it comes to time of recruitment. The for respect for both gender should be extended to the children,” she added.
Macharia said the commission is working to establish a psycho-social support programme in schools to help in handling mental issues among teachers and students.
She noted that stress and social challenges have been on rise among teachers and students which need to be properly handled by a team of professionals.
The CEO further said teachers have been trained and ready to carry out assessment of CBC to grade four learners.
“We are ready and the CBC assessment slated in one week’s time will be done successfully. All learners in grade four will be assessed accordingly,” she added.
