Two suspects nabbed vandalizing KPC transformer

Two suspects have been arrested after being found vandalizing a Kenya Power Company (KPC) transformer at Korowe village in Nyando sub county.

The company Regional Security Officer Zachary Ombati said the suspects were arrested at 4am after an operation mounted by KPC security team and police officers from Nyando sub county who laid an ambush after trailing them.

Two other accomplices managed to escape during the night operation.

Ombati said cases of transformer theft in the area were alarming, adding that the company has lost a total of 11 transformers valued at Sh5 million in a span of one month.

Area Chief Charles Ochieng said the targeted transformer installed during the last mile project was serving close to 100 households.

The area which had gone without power for decades, has now been thrown back to darkness courtesy of the vandals.

Security officers will not relent until all the culprits destroying critical infrastructure are nabbed.

“These two are going to serve as an example. We are not going to allow anybody to sabotage government projects,” he said.
