Senator Orengo told to forget becoming governor in 2022

Former Rarieda MP Eng. Nicholas Odero Gumbo Sunday told Siaya Senator, James Orengo to forget about being the governor of Siaya come 2022.

Gumbo said people of Siaya will not allow Orengo to swap positions with Rasanga in 2022 as has been allegedly proposed by a section of Siaya leaders.

He said the gubernatorial and senatorial positions in the region were neither a retirement option nor a preserve of a few individuals in the county.

The former legislator said in 2013, senator Orengo was approached to take up the gubernatorial position but he turned it down saying he was not willing to take an office job, hence he cannot be allowed to occupy that position come 2022.

Gumbo says that Siaya being the epic centre of devolution in Kenya must move forward and not let individuals with selfish interests take over the County’s top leadership.

He on the other hand accused the current top leadership of Siaya county government of dismal performance in service delivery.

Gumbo said the county’s leadership has not been focused on initiating development projects to uplift the living standards of its people and therefore was not able to compete with other counties development-wise.

Eng. Gumbo was speaking at Mahaya secondary school in West Asembo ward during a funds drive in aid of the school where he called on professionals from the county not to shy away from the issues of county leadership but instead assist in moving the wheels of development.

He said with the current political situation in the country, people from Siaya are not seeing any benefits of devolution and it will take the efforts of professionals from the region to help in realizing the fruits.

The harambee was attended by area MCA, Ambrose Akuno, his counterparts Okoth Olasi (west Uyoma), Oduor Odongo (Ugenya East) and Booker Bonyo (Uyoma North) among other guests.
