TSP will not oppose BBI referendum, says Kiunjuri

The Service Party (TSP) leader Mwangi Kinjuri says he is not opposed to the proposed BBI constitutional amendments expected to be subjected to Kenyans later in the year.

Kiunjuri, a close ally of Deputy President Dr. William Ruto seemed to have made an about-turn from his earlier stance where he supported the Tangatanga wing of the Jubilee party in opposing the clamour to change the constitution.

Speaking in Nanyuki where he attended the burial of late Hannah Wanjira, a wife to his friend pastor Joseph Njuguna at Bluegum estate Tuesday, the TSP leader stated that he would not engage in a NO campaign against BBI.

He said that he had gone through the BBI draft and noted that it is 80 percent good, but added that there was room for further improvement by the next government.

“We as TSP will not engage in a NO campaign during the referendum since we support BBI. The document is 80 percent good. We shall work with it and improve it later. Those expecting us to engage in a NO contest will be in for a rude shock,” Kiunjuri told the mourners.

Previously, Kiunjuri was among a section of politicians from Mt. Kenya region who said they would fight back the proposed changes.

The party leader and his brigade had vowed to face President Uhuru Kenyatta head-on as he moved to solidify support for the Building Bridges Initiative.
