Mandera bright student cannot afford fees

A pupil who sat KCPE in Mandera is calling on well-wishers to help her raise fees after being admitted to Pangani Girls Secondary School.

Farahiya Nurow Oyan  scored 352 marks at Wargadud primary school in the just concluded Kenya Certificate of Primary School Education (KCPE) examination from a remote village in Mandera.

The girl’s parent Nurrow Oyan who spoke to KNA in Mandera town on Saturday said the dream of his daughter of becoming a surgeon is at stake as he cannot raise any money.

Oyan said he is poor and works as a broker of rafts used to make furniture and that his daily earnings is a meager Shs.300 that is used to feed the family of eight.

The man revealed he has been going round the village soliciting for the much needed school fees but his efforts have so far been in vain.

He said he wished the daughter would go on with her education being the second born in the family to help the rest realise their dreams.

Pastoralists in the region lost herds of cattle to a ravaging drought last year leaving residents without a livelihood.
