Garissa referral hospital receives equipment to repair fistula

The Garissa referral hospital will start repairing and treating fistula condition after receiving advanced equipment donated by a UK-based Muslim women-led organization.

            Health Chief Officer Hassan Anshur who received the equipment to repair rectal vaginal fistula today said the donation was a huge milestone for the sector.

            Anshur said Garissa County signed a three-year partnership with Global One, a UK-based organization to treat, fight stigma on fistula as well as train the health workers on how to treat, care and management of the condition.

            He said the condition was prevalent in the region due to early girl child marriages, FGM and unskilled delivery at home.

            The chief officer urge the local community to shun retrogressive cultural practices that he noted were a threat to human health progress.

            Anshur thanked the organization for the support and assured them that equipments will be put into proper use fo the benefit of the local community.

            The Chairman of Global One organization Ibrahim Lithome said the organization will train two medical doctors, 20 nurses, community health workers and faith leaders in the three year partnership programs on treatment and prevention of the fistula conditions.

            The equipment received include Electro hydraulic multipurpose operation, Diathermy machine, Suction machine, fistula complete set, surgical drapes, theater boots, stool boots among others.

            Present during the occasion was Garissa Referal hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Ambrose Misore, Mohamed Haret Director of family health, Kaltuma Abdirahman program officer Global One Kenya and Aden Hambe Deputy Director county health and records.

            Meanwhile, Garissa Governor Ali Korane will today (Thursday) host the British High Commissioner to Kenya and other partners in Garissa. The group shall tour a number of projects within the town.
