Two government officials from Turkana county were Wednesday evening shot dead by suspected Pokot bandits at Nakwamoru, Turkana south sub county.
The two, an environment officer based in Turkana east sub county and a clerk based in Turkana south constituency development office were gunned down by bandits while they were travelling on a motorbike between Lomerimudang and Nakwamoru.
Turkana south deputy county commissioner George Tanui confirmed the incident which happened at 5:00pm.
Tension has gripped Nakwamoru, Lorogon and Kainuk areas following the killings.
“we have deployed police officers to the area to beef up security even as try to reach out to the elected leaders to have a public baraza and restore calm in the area,” said Tanui.
Those killed were identified as 35 year old Maxwel Lokol and Mark Erukudi.
Erukudi’s body was found Thursday morning after he went missing following the Wednesday evening attack.
A sombre mood engulfed the Lodwar county referral mortuary on Thursday morning where the bodies were taken. members of the county assembly from Turkana county, relatives and county government officers gathered at the morgue to view the body.
