Police in Mwala Sub County have arrested a 40-years old pastor and a male health nurse after they were allegedly found trying to procure an abortion on a 14-year-old orphan that the pastor had impregnated.
The two (whose identities are yet to be released) were arrested Sunday at around 7 pm in Masii town after members of the public informed the Community Policing Team on spotting the suspects with the minor heading to the clinic.
According to Masii OCS Felix Nkonge who confirmed the incident, the girl had allegedly been impregnated by the pastor and wanted her to terminate the pregnancy.
The duo is currently in custody at Masii Police Station waiting to be arraigned in court after completion of investigations into the matter.
Masii Ward MCA Betty Nzisa Nzioki condemned the incident and called for speedy completion of investigations to serve justice to the girl. She said it is a pity for a person who identifies himself with the work of God to defile an orphan and try to cover his crime by procuring an abortion on her.
“It is very unfortunate to hear that a man who purports to be a servant of God can do such a heinous act and still go ahead to plan an abortion on a helpless girl who is an orphan. I thank members of the community and security organs who managed to swing into action immediately leading to the arrest of the suspects,” said the MCA.
“It is my sincere hope that the girl, who is a student gets justice and the suspects are prosecuted in accordance with the law,” she told the press.
