Chesamis high school in Bungoma closed indefinitely following riots

Chesamisi High School in Kimilili Sub County has been closed indefinitely and students sent home after they went on a rampage and destroyed school properties worth millions of shillings.

The school principal Christopher Serem said the strike was the height of previous riots that plagued the school in March 2020, just some few weeks before learning was disrupted across the country due to the covid-19 pandemic.

In the March incident, some 50 students, most of them in form 4 were suspended after destroying school property and breaking off before the school closed.

The students were then demanding a fully sponsored entertainment program at school, among other things. The 50 students who had been suspended indefinitely showed up at school on Monday January 4th.

This sparked further unrest among the other students leading to a riot Saturday night.

Computers and two vehicles, one of which belonged to the school principal were destroyed during the incident.
