Quick action by the Kiambu Multi-Agency team formed to oversee the return to school of students has helped 3 learners to return to two schools in Githunguri Sub-County of Kiambu county.
Speaking to KNA at Matuguta Police Post in Githunguri , a police officer who participated in the rescue exercise said they had intervened in a case where a landlord had caused 2 upper primary school pupils to miss school after their school uniform and other school items were locked in their house for non payment of rent.
The officer, Police constable Wesley Terer said they had received information from the mother of the children whom he identified as Joyce Gakii that her landlord at Gituamba area had locked her house after she was unable to pay rent of Sh 2500 for 2 months.
According to the officer, she was locked out, forcing her ro relocate to another house where she is now residing but left all her belongings in her former house.
He noted that when the Government ordered the re-opening of the schools for Monday 4th, she returned to the said house and that her efforts to convince the landlord to open for her the house to enable her collect the uniforms for her children were futile and that was when she sought the assistance from the area assistant Chief Simon Muya Ndei who led her to Matuguta Police Post where she made the report.
The officers then swung into action and upon locating the landlord they were able to instruct him to open the house for the mother who was able to collect the uniform and other items that enabled the children, std 7 and 5 to resume schooling.
In another incident, the principal of a secondary school involved police officers from Ikinu to assist a form four candidate return to school after he disagreed with his parents and failed to return home for 2 days.
Mr. Daniel Ndungu the principal of Willlam Ngiru Gitau said he had aided the father of the boy through the police to direct him to where he had been sleeping after he failed to return to his home for two days.
Ikinu OCS Inspector Mbaisi Madahana confirmed that the officers from his station had intervened in the issue and that the boy had promised to return to school the following day. KNA learnt that the boy was unhappy that his shoes were torn and that the parents were reluctant to buy him a new pair.
