The Planning PS further said that in all the schools they had visited, the guidelines by the ministry of health were being adhered to in a bid to protect the learners and the teachers from contracting the deadly covid-19.

“We have seen schools have installed adequate hand washing water points, detergents, social distancing is being maintained in classes and that everyone is wearing a facemask all the time. This is impressive and very important if we have to defeat this disease,” Torome said after touring Naibor secondary school in Laikipia North Sub County.

He also added that the turnout was equally impressive in most schools in the area giving a clear indication that learners were keen on going back to classes.

“The high turnout in most schools we have visited indicates the eagerness of our learners to resume classes and recover the lost time they were out due to Covid-19,” Torome said.

On his part, Dr. Kiptoo said that in schools where there where classes were not enough, the government was putting in place measures to do expansion to ensure that there was adequate space in learning institutions.

“We are impressed and I feel this is the way to go because we cannot continue suffering, countries now have to live with the disease and we must prepare to move on. There are opportunities that come also as a result of this disease because now we have been forced to set aside more funds for putting up more classes just as we are expanding hospitals,” Dr. Kiptoo said.

The PS lauded teachers for ensuring the health guidelines and protocols were being followed in their respective schools to avoid the spread of Covid-19.
