A section of Nyamira resident have expressed dissatisfaction with the Governor’s nomination of new County Executive Committee (CEC) members terming the cabinet imbalanced and discriminatory.
Nyamira County disability liaison officer, Mr Wilberforce Jared raised concern on lack of Persons living with disability in the Governor’s nominated CEC members which he said contravened the constitution.
“We are writing a letter to the County Assembly petitioning the members to demand from the Governor that he nominates at least one person living with disability into his cabinet of ten in order to be constitutionally right,” Jared stated.
The officer advised the Governor to go back to the drawing board and undertake fresh nomination which should be in line with provision in Art 27(3) of the constitution which guarantees equal treatment including the right to equal opportunities and Art 27(4 and 5) which prohibits discrimination on any ground including in employment and labour relations and ensure that at least one person in the worst scenario is nominated to his new cabinet as a member of the CEC.
Others are Bosamaoro ward residents who are bitter that one of their own, Zablon Onchiri who was in charge of Housing, Lands and urban development was dropped though they maintained he was one of the best performers in late Nyagarama’s cabinet.
Led by Samuel Ondari the residents complained they will have no one to push for their region’s development agenda.
“In the initial regime of the late Nyagarama, we were adequately represented in his cabinet by Zablon Onchiri but we are a disappointed lot after Nyaribo announced his new cabinet Wednesday this week and Onchiri’s name was missing. We are left like orphans with no one to speak on our behalf,” Mr. Ondari lamented.
The recently sworn in governor nominated 10 CEC members awaiting vetting by the County assembly before they start work and only three out of the 10 from late Nyagarama’s regime were retained, something which has spurred mixed reactions in Nyamira and beyond.
