Chinese die on the construction site

A male Chinese working on the Mau Narok- Nakuru road died on the spot after he was hit by a water tanker on the construction site at Enengetia area in Narok North Sub County.

Confirming yesterday’s incident, the area Sub County Police Commander Fred Erick Kibenei said the Chinese was on his phone when the tanker pouring water along the construction site hit him from the rear.

“According to the information we got from an eye witness, the Chinese man was moving around while on a phone call when the tanker driver hit him accidentally,” he reiterated.

The police boss noted that the medics who visited the scene confirmed the death on the spot saying the deceased sustained head injuries.

“It is unfortunate that the foreigner died while on the construction site. We have launched investigations to ascertain the death before we make a final report,” said Kibenei.

He said the body would be moved to a Nairobi morgue where it would be preserved as his relatives in China are informed of his death.

The area chief Samson Kaare asked residents and motorists to be vigilant while using the road that is on construction to avoid causing careless accidents.

The upgrading of the road to bitumen standard was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta in July 2017 and was expected to be completed 30 months later.

However, the completion period was later revised to 40 months due to delayed funds and was expected to be complete by September 2020.

The road is being constructed by a Chinese company dubbed UNIK Civil Engineering Limited and funded by the Government of Kenya through the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).

Its completion will be a big plus to the residents in the food rich area that borders Maasai Mau forest as they will transport their produce to the market with ease.
