Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has commissioned Community Area Councils to enhance decentralization of county services to the grassroots.
The county becomes the first to have the councils who will serve under the Community Area Unit.
He said 8,000 people from all 12 sub counties have been appointed to serve in the Councils.
The event took place at Lung’aro polytechnic in Matungu Sub County on Monday where the council members were briefed on their duties.
He urged them to focus on spearheading the County’s development agenda at the grassroots and represent views of the locals.
Oparanya noted that the team will also supervise county projects in their jurisdiction as well as provide information on issues affecting their areas.
He warned the officers against engaging in corruption and other activities that would undermine their service delivery.
The County Executive Committee Member for Public Service and Administration Rhoda Masaviru said the councils will focus on five key areas including health, education and governance, roads and infrastructure, water and environment, and agriculture, livestock and fisheries.
She said the council members would have badges for easy identification by the public.
