Vihiga DCC warns of dire consequences against chiefs involved in graft

Vihiga Sub County chiefs and their assistants have strongly been warned against engaging in graft and related activities.
Area Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Mrs. Susan Waweru issued the stern warning when she officially installed Mr. Henry Chunguli as chief for Wamuluma location on Friday.
Waweru was reacting to graft complaints leveled against some of the chiefs whom area residents had accused of demanding bribes before offering essential services.
“It is shameful for chiefs who are employed by government to demand as little as Sh50 before providing services to helpless citizens, regretted Waweru,” adding the vice was tainting the government’s image.
In a terse statement directed to the local administrators, Waweru declared an anti-graft war against the chiefs and their assistants working in the sub county.
“I will not tolerate any chief who instead of allowing Kenyans especially helpless peasants, to benefit from free government services continues to pile more financial constraints to them,” she warned.
The DCC encouraged members of public to forward names of local administrators that demand monetary favours to relevant government agencies for necessary action.
“Wananchi should assist the government clean the public service by revealing corrupt officers to the various security agencies as well as bodies charged with fighting graft and related crimes,” she appealed.
Prior to the DCC’s address, opinion leaders representing various groups, including youth, women and the elderly, had publicly registered complaints over what they jointly described as runaway graft involving some chiefs and assistants chiefs serving in the area.
Waweru also appealed to parents and guardians to closely monitor their children to prevent them from breaking the law and landing in trouble during this December holiday.
