A domestic feud turned tragic in Siaya County after a mother poisoned her infant woman to retaliate her husband’s failure to buy them a New Year gifts
Witnesses said the 27-year-old mother identified as Linet Achieng fed her two-month-old infant with poison before partaking the same concoction in an attempt to take her life moments after picking a quarrel with the husband who at the time had left the house.
Asayi sub location assistant chief, George Otieno Anyiyo, confirmed the incident saying the husband Dan Ooko raised alarm and rushed the mother and infant to hospital but their daughter Mary Adhiambo lost the battle for her life on the way to the facility.
Chief Onyinyo informed KNA that Preliminary reports into the into the incident indicated that the mother allegedly accused the husband of cheating on her hence the decision kill both the infant and herself.
The husband who found the two groaning in pain rushed them to Asayi dispensary where they were given first aid before being referred to Inuka hospital for further treatment, explained the assistant chief.
Unfortunately, the infant daughter named as Mary Adhiambo was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital while the mother was treated and later discharged.
Chief Anyiyo said the police were handling the matter and the mother will face justice immediately she is fully recovered.
