Police in Tharaka Nithi County are investigating sodomy allegations committed by one of their own.
Tharaka Nithi County Police Commander Charles Mbatu said his officers swung into action after receiving information that about five teenage boys were in the residence of Chief Inspector John Marete from Ntumu Police station in the wee hours of today.
The County Commander who was speaking to journalists in his office in Chuka town further disclosed the officer is under police custody while the alleged victims have been taken to Chuka County Referral Hospital for medical examination.
“Once the investigations are complete the officer will be immediately taken to court,” said the police boss.
Mbatu hailed the Tharaka Nithi residents for giving information that led to the arrest of the alleged perpetrator and called on them to continue utilizing the “Nyumba Kumi” initiative and the community policing to curb crime and other human rights violations in the county.
He took the opportunity to remind the county residents to continue observing the Covid-19 protocols even more so during this festive season when much travelling is expected from within and without the county.
The Police Commander further reminded the members of the public to observe the curfew that is between 10.00 pm and 4.00 am and desist from extending their partying beyond the stipulated hours, else they will be arrested and prosecuted.
“It would be very unfortunate for revelers to be arrested during their partying but we have no option but to enforce the law and I beg for Tharaka Nithi residents who have been quite observant to Ministry of Health guidelines to continue with the same spirit even during this festive season,” emphasized the County Commander.
