A section of Kalenjin and Kikuyu elders in Uasin Gishu county have initiated strategies to monitor and expose any attempts by politicians to cause violence for political gain as the country heads to the 2022 general election.
The elders, led by Musa Mursi, Joseph Wainaina, Major John Seii, and George Nyanjui said they have noticed some deliberate moves by certain person targeting to cause division among communities living in the Rift Valley, particularly Uasin Gishu County.
They said they would not endorse or support any politician who would be associated with violence and any criminal activity that interferes with peace being enjoyed in the region.
They criticized those still referring to Eldoret as a hot spot area and vowed to ensure peace prevails adding that the kind of post-election violence witnessed in 2007/08 would never occur again.
They said they would form a single council of elders that would bring together all elders from different communities in Uasin Gishu who would be ambassadors of peace and who would monitor and report politicians attempting to create divisive politics.
They however appealed to government officers and politicians not to take advantage of the 2007/8 post-electric violence victims by using their helplessness to achieve political mileage.
They said no elder was consulted before the victims went to meet with the DCI George Kinoti and many of the victims were not well informed about the purpose of the meeting that was held in Nairobi.
They appealed to residents to remain united and avoid any attempt by any forces intending to divide them for political gains.
