Tea farmers paid over Sh600 million in Gatundu North

Deputy County Commissioner Inaugurates Teresiah WanjikuNgure as the assistant Chief in charge Gachege Sublocation

Tea farmers in Gatundu North Constituency earned over Sh600 million in tea bonus 2018.

If properly utilized, the money would engage the youth positively and empower them economically, area Deputy County Commissioner Braxton Mayabi said.

The administrator lamented that consumption of chang’aa and drug abuse has rendered a number of youth in the area useless and challenged parents to engage their children in agriculture so as to remove them from truant activities.

Mayabi said that Gatundu North has very fertile land that could produce almost every agricultural product and the road network is good and thus anything produced would reach Nairobi, Thika and Nakuru markets very fast.

He said the youth need to be guided appropriately to channel their energy into economic growth.

The DCC made the remarks when he inaugurated two administrators at Gachege trading center. He said the Government was committed to ensuring that services were brought as close as possible to the people to create an enabling environment for progress.

The two administrators were Elias Njuguna in charge of Njahi sub location and Teresiah Wanjiku Ngure in charge of Gachege sub location.

He also emphasized on the importance of ‘nyumba kumi’ initiative, where he urged the people to always keep track on their neighbours’ activities so that they beef up security in the region.
