Board soliciting public views to enrich street children policy and legislation

Board members of the Street Families Rehabilitation Trust Fund (SFRTF) visited Turkana county Tuesday to present the national policy draft on rehabilitation of street families and listen to public views with a view to enriching the process.
The policy draft aims at enacting a legislation that will address street children menace in the country.
Addressing the press after the meeting held in a Lodwar hotel, board member Wario Yatani said the meeting was fruitful and the members of the public had enriched policy draft.
“We had good day, members of the public have given their input and we are looking forward for this draft,” he said.
He added, “we are looking forward to this draft giving birth to a legislation on street families rehabilitation trust fund through an act of parliament.
Although SFRTF was established in 2003 through a gazette it never took its rightful place in the country for lack of requisite legislation.
The board is now determined to see its policy implementation and legislation done at the earliest opportunity so that it embarks on helping the vulnerable members of the street families.
He said street children are Kenyans just like the rest of us and must be accorded every citizenry right, though the society has grossly failed them in the past.
The board has been moving round the country from December 7-15 to collect views from members of the public.
