Waiguru puts a smile on the faces of students and the elderly

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has distributed an assortment of foodstuffs to benefit secondary and primary school students and vulnerable area residents.
Also included in the deliveries were sanitary pads for school girls in form four and standard eight as well as the disabled in the area.
While flagging off the distributing vehicles from her Kagio town residence yesterday Waiguru said she had decided to put a smile on the beneficiaries’ face during this festive season. “Am aware that most of the elderly in our midst can’t even afford to put a meal on the table and I have therefore deemed it fit to put a smile on their faces this festive season as we look for permanent solutions to their plight,’’ she said.

She added the same applied to those living with various disabilities and who had been factored in the food ration being distributed.
The governor said she had tasked the CECs, Chief Officers and Directors from her government to oversee the distribution of the foodstuffs on her behalf to ensure the commodities reached the targeted beneficiaries.
She also said since form four and standard eight candidates were still in school preparing for their examinations and would not be able to join their parents, she had decided to factor them in the program.
The governor has however cautioned area residents to strictly observe all the prescribed public health protocols to prevent Covid-19 transmission warning them that the county had so far recorded 411 corona positive cases and seven deaths.
“Despite the figure, am pleased to inform you that no one is in the isolation wards while few are receiving home-based care. We have also received two more ventilators showing how prepared we are for the pandemic,” she said.
The governor urged the locals to wear facemasks all the time and continue washing their hands as many times as possible in order to win the war against the pandemic.
