Machakos County Woman Representative Joyce Kamene Kasimbi has urged the public to exercise decorum and respect to the deceased to allow the bereaved families to go through the mourning process in peace.
Kasimbi says incidences of people resorting to the social media platforms to discredit the deceased are becoming the norm these days, something she said is unfortunate and a disservice to the grieving family.
She singled out the recent death of Machakos Senator Boniface Kabaka as a case in point where she alleged that individuals had taken to social media to peddle rumors over the cause the death of the first time Senator who died last week, while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital.
“It is very disheartening to see unsubstantiated posts in regard to what killed Kabaka in total disregard to the grieving family. Let us know the departed senator had a family which is currently going through a very difficult time as they try to come to terms with what happened. Therefore, let us give the family quiet time during this hard time to enable them go through this process and give him a dignified sendoff,’ said Kasimbi while addressing the press at Wamunyu.
The MP termed the death of the Senator as a big blow to the entire lower eastern region.
Kasimbi said as elected leaders from the region they are looking forward to according to the fallen leader a befitting send-off.
In his message of condolence sent to newsrooms last week, Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua described the sudden death of the Senator as a big blow not only to the county but the country at large.
Dr. Mutua also disclosed that the Senator succumbed to death owing to a stroke from a blood clot he had been battling for some time.
“On behalf of myself and the people of Machakos, I pass my condolence to the family of our beloved Senator Boniface Kabaka who has gone to be with the Lord after a stroke arising from a blood clot that has been bothering him for a while,” read part of his statement.
“Before he became Senator he had for a time served as my Government’s legal counsel. He was a lively man with strong dedication for the improvement of the people of Machakos and Kenya. This is a big blow to us,” he added.
The late Senator is said to have checked at the 3D restaurant located in Kilimani area on Thursday afternoon last week while in the company of a female colleague identified as Esther Nthenya Muli.
He was however taken ill at around 3 am on Friday and rushed to the Nairobi Hospital where he was immediately admitted in the ICU.
Police later visited the 3D restaurant and arrested Ms Muli in connection to the sudden illness of the lawmaker.
She was later arraigned in court this week but later released after detectives said she was no longer a person of interest in connection with the incident.
This is after blood samples taken from the senator’s blood showed no traces of poison.
