Murang’a Chiefs told to give factual information on incidences in their areas

Chiefs and their assistants in Murang’a County have been ordered to give factual information on incidents happening in their areas.
Murang’a County Commissioner Mr. John Elung’ata said wrong information has led to speculations posing a challenge in handling some incidents especially crime ones.
Elung’ata said in the recent past, some crime incidents in the county have been misreported giving wrong perception on what is really happening on the ground.
Speaking while meeting all chiefs among other administrators in Murang’a town Thursday, the commissioner observed that chiefs and their assistants were well conversant with respective jurisdiction thus better positioned to give correct information.
“Security team cannot act on wrong information and most of the reports especially in media lack facts thus portraying the county in bad light,” said Elung’ata.
Chiefs from areas allegedly bedeviled by resurgence of criminal gangs were ordered to work with the county security team to arrest the matter.
In parts of Murang’a South including Kabati and Kandara, residents have been complaining of harassment by members of gang groups namely ‘46 brothers’ and mungiki.
It is also alleged that the gang groups were trying to get involved in initiation programmes where initiates were being harassed.
Elung’ata said the right information should be provided by the administrators so that the reality is known about the people behind the harassment of initiates.
The administrator refuted reports that two initiates from the county have died following harassment by those mentoring the boys saying only one death was reported.
Two weeks ago, a 15 year old boy from Kandara who had undergone circumcision passed on allegedly after he was tortured by those who were handling him.
The boy, Juliano Kanyonyo from Gatitu primary school, was among best candidate in 2018’s KCPE after scoring 376 marks.
The commissioner ordered the area chief to give a detailed report on what happened and the culprits behind for the necessary action.
“We don’t want speculation on what caused the death of the boy. The security team needs to know who were handling the candidate and why he was tortured among other information,” said Elung’ata.
