Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Samson Ojwang has disclosed that all unlicensed bars in the area will be shut down in a crackdown that is set to start next week.
Also to be shut down are entertainment joints that are flouting the Covid 19 protocols in the region.
Briefing the press in his office Wednesday, the County Commissioner said that police will carry out the crackdown with the help of regional national government administrators. “We are going to launch a crackdown on bars that do not have licenses to operate and those that are violating the COVID-19 rules,” he expounded.
His sentiments were echoed by County Police Commander Fredrick Ochieng who stressed: “We will start the operation to close all the bars with no licenses and arrest those flouting the rules. Our law states that no business will operate without a license and therefore no one will be excluded,” he said.
Ochieng added that delays from the county government to issue licenses will not bar them from closing down beer joints. “We will not allow the county government to hold the national government hostage by delaying to issue licenses. Our work is to enforce the law not to issue licenses, so we will close the bars and arrest those with no licenses,” he maintained.
He called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report to police any bars violating COVID-19 rules
