A family in Nessuit, Njoro sub-county has urged the government to intervene in a 10 acre piece of land that is rendering them sleepless nights over ownership dispute.
According to Isaac Cheruiyot, he has owned the said land since 1996 having a title to the same but the area chief, Joseph Rotich has colluded with police officers (GSU) to make his life unbearable in the area.
Cheruiyot complained that his son, Matthew Rotich was last month brutally attacked by the said police officers who broke his arm after trying to inquire about an ongoing construction in his father’s farm.
The chief did not stop at this as he illegally sold part of the land without informing Cheruiyot, fell down trees, is fetching firewood and it is also alleged that he claims to be the owner of the piece of land in question.
According to him, he has tried to sort out the matter with the chief but he keeps ignoring the matter and using police officers to intimidate his family, thus blaming him for the hurdles he is encountering.
Njoro sub-county police commander, Jonathan Muganda confirmed that indeed that controversy was brewing in the farm but the only solution to this is for the matter to be resolved in court.
Muganda said that investigations into the matter had been taken up by the DCI and if one of parties involved felt offended, then they ought to get a court order restraining the other party from committing any more harm.
He urged the parties to maintain peace until the matter is resolved. Rotich was not available when contacted for comments over this matter.
