Protest over killer bar, as woman killed for failing to pay bill

Residents of Kiganjo estate in Thika town have protested over a local killer bar, where three drunkards are alleged to have been beaten to death by club bouncers for failing to pay their bills, on separate dates.
They said the attacks mostly occur on weekends, as they find bodies of people believed to have been beaten in the Bedsitter bar dumped in a nearby trench early mornings.
The most recent incident occurred on Saturday when a woman well known in the area and who spend the night drinking at the pub was found dead, with injuries on the head and other parts of the body, dumped in the trench
James Mburu, a bodaboda rider said despite protesting to the police to have the bar closed, no action has been taken.
“The bar is a security threat, and despite complaining to authorities to have it closed, nothing has been done. It has become a killer bar as you never know whether once inside you will leave out alive,” he said.
Julius Njoroge, another resident said they will not allow the bar to operate unless the killers are brought to book.
“If no action to close the bar is taken, we will take to the streets to demand for its closure. This bar has been allowed to operate in utmost disregard to the law. It never closes even during curfew hours and no one can question it,” he said.
Thika West Deputy County Commissioner Mbogo Mathioya confirmed the incident saying the DCI have launched investigations and anyone found culpable will face the law.
He said a multi-agency team consisting of the County government enforcement team and the police are under instruction to conduct frequent patrols to crack down on bars flouting curfew restrictions.
