Thieves  on  Sunday night stole an unknown amount of money after breaking into a car in a homestead in Meru Town.

The victim of the theft, David Ireri, said his car had been parked at his residential place in Makutano area within Meru Town when it was broken into by unknown people.

Ireri  who serves as the County Culture Director said he was shocked when he woke up Monday morning to find one of the vehicle’s windscreen smashed and the cash plus other office documents missing.

He however, declined to disclose the exact amount stolen from the car.

The cash is said to have been meant to pay officials in the ongoing counties Kenya Music and Cultural Festivals being held at Meru Teachers’ College in Meru County that started last Friday and are scheduled to end on this Thursday.

Confirming the incident to KNA, Meru OCPD, Peter  Kimani said already police were investigating the incident which he said involved a substantial sum.

“We still have scanty information but we shall let it be known as soon as investigations into the incident are completed. Our CID officers have taken up the matter and the vehicle has been dusted for finger prints,” revealed Kimani.

He urged members of the public to desist from the habit of carrying huge sums of money in their vehicles instead urging them to bank or keep the money in office safes.
