Boda-Boda operators in Busia County have thrown their weight behind the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report saying it means well for all Kenyans.
The operators committed to support the report in Busia town at a two-day Boda-Boda Association of Kenya Covid-19 and economic empowerment conference.
Busia County Boda-boda Association of Kenya Chairman Erick Makokha rallied fellow operators to support the government and the report aimed at creating an all-inclusive society.
“The Government headed by President Uhuru Kenyatta has shown its readiness to stand with us. As an umbrella association of boda-boda riders here in Busia we have therefore decided to stand with him for the remaining period of his term.
“On the issue of BBI we fully support the proposals in it. We don’t want to be bribed or coerced by anybody. We are for the report and even if the referendum is called today we shall vote in its support,” he said.
He added: “We want the country to have a new trajectory where each Kenyans feels included. In the BBI we have a proposal saying that if we have participated in an election both the winner and the loser are both brought on board.
“This will prevent politicians from misusing boda-boda operators to fight their wars before, during and after each electioneering period.”
The national chairman of the association Kevin Mubadi echoed Makokha’s sentiments saying their countrywide support for the government and the proposed constitutional changes is unwavering.
“As the national chairman let me reiterate that all boda-boda riders support President Uhuru Kenyatta and are behind the BBI. Let the President know that we shall stand with him till the end of his term.
“We are the voters and we have the numbers to ensure the BBI proposals sail through.”Mubadi stated.
Principal Secretary for ICT and Innovation Jerome Ochieng who opened the two day conference urged the boda-boda operators to support the BBI report noting that it’s meant for a better an all-inclusive Kenya.
