Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi has declared that he will vie for the county’s gubernatorial seat in the 2022 General Election.
Mulomi expressed his desire to succeed the incumbent-Sospeter Ojaamong at Apatit village in Teso South Sub County during the burial of Vincent Panyako Nyongesa, 77, a relative of the local MCA.
He said he has acquired adequate experience as deputy governor since 2017, hence he has the ability to steer forward the county’s development agenda and uplift the livelihoods of the residents after Ojaamong, whose second and final term comes to an end in 2022.
He said, “My cousin John Bunyasi (Nambale legislator) also wants the same seat. Given that I am now in position two, it would be wise to aim for the top position just like any other ambitious student.
“However, my top priority at the moment is to ensure all on-going projects are undertaken professionally and completed in time to achieve the Governor’s legacy.”
Bunyasi who also spoke at the burial said he is looking for a way of working together with the deputy governor come 2022.
“I am in the 2022 gubernatorial race. My relative, the deputy governor Mulomi is also eyeing the same seat we shall look for a way of moving forward together.
“The governor and his deputy have built for us a foundation and have done well. We shall hold onto to that foundation to steer the county to greater heights,” Bunyasi said.
So far apart from Mulomi, other leaders who have declared interest for the Busia Gubernatorial seat include Teso South MP Geoffrey Omuse (ODM), Nambale MP John Bunyasi (ANC) and Geoffrey Odanga (Matayos, ODM).
Others with high prospects of joining the race for the top seat include Busia Woman Representative Florence Mutua, former Funyula legislator Paul Otuoma and Kenya Ports Authority General Manager for Infrastructure Development Vincent Sidai who lost to Ojaamong in 2017 and 2013 respectively.
