An impending disbursement of tea bonuses in the months of October and November has attracted an influx of commercial sex workers in Bomet County.
The twilight girls have booked themselves in various locations in Konoin, Sotik and Bomet Central Sub-County trading centres in order to tap in on careless farmers who were expected to indulged in binge drinking and unrestrained spending spree.
In the past, myriad of cases where the farmers have been robbed of their hard earned cash have been reported to the police, with many remaining unresolved since the perpetrators vanished into thin air.
That’s why Bomet County Police Commander Naomi Ichami has issued a cautionary note to the farmers against merry making in place of wise investments.
Ichami told KNA in Bomet town that many girls, who were drawn from as far as Mombasa, were in to reap where they had not sown.
She asks the farmers from tea growing Sub-Counties of Bomet not to carry large amounts of cash without security saying they were not only being targeted in drinking dens but also along the way by marauding gangs who pretend to be bodaboda riders.
The police boss said the trend has been on for some time now saying the introduction of digital money was a temporary remedy to the problem.
“Even with your digital platforms, you can still be robbed of your money because there are cybercriminals out there who will force you to reveal security details to your bank accounts ” she added.
“So the best thing to do is to be wise, go home and discuss with your family on the best projects to invest your money in and stop the nonsense of partying away all your money.”
