Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has urged local residents to take up personal responsibility in adhering to the Ministry of Health guidelines so as to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Addressing the media Friday at Ndimu farm in Elburgon, Natembeya observed that the spike in the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases was as a result of laxity in adhering to the health protocols of washing hands, wearing masks, keeping social distance among others.

He also warned matatu operators against flouting the guidelines by carrying more passengers than the required number, adding that those frequenting social places such as bars ought to strictly adhere to the rules or else the surge in numbers of those getting infected will continue, despite the robust measures put in place to curb it.

He further noted that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s move in opening up the country’s economy should not be misconstrued to water down the efforts already made to curb the potential spread of the virus.

Nakuru County has so far recorded over 1,000 confirmed Covid-19 cases.
