AP on Murder Case Takes Plea

An administration police officer attached to the Member of Parliament for Githunguri who allegedly shot dead a security guard a fortnight ago was yesterday charged with murder.

            He was arraigned before Kiambu High court Judge Justice Christine Meoli and charged that on October 2nd at Riverside restaurant in Kiambu County, he unlawfully murdered John Walubengo Makanga.

            During the virtual proceedings, he pleaded not guilty to the offence whose sentence is life imprisonment if he is found guilty after trial.

              Daniel Kinyanjui Wainaina is currently remanded at the Kiambu police station following an order allowed by Kiambu Chief Magistrate Mrs.Patriciah Gichohi on October 2nd 2020.

            Until the time of the offence, the accused was working as a body guard of Githunguri Member of Parliament Mr. Gabriel Kago.

            He is being represented by Maxwell Njehu. The case will be mentioned on 17th November 2020 and the hearing has been set for June 2nd and 3rd of 2021.

            Since the closure of the courts in March 2020 which were necessitated by coronavirus, Kiambu High court has been conducting her proceedings virtually.

            However, during the September service week when judicial officers are deployed to other courts to assist in decongesting the backlog of cases, the process was done in open court.

            From Monday 19th October, 2020, Justice Professor Joel Ngugi returned to Kiambu High court for hearing of the case in which a former high school prinicipal Ms Jane Muthoni Mucheru is charged with the murder of her husband, Solomon Mwangi in 2016.Mwangi was until his mysterious death the principal of Kiru boys in Muranga County.

            The case was among those that were transferred from other courts to Kiambu high court when the high court opened its doors to the public in 2016.Justice Ngugi was later transferred to Nakuru High court but occasionally returns to Kiambu high court to continue with some cases that he began hearing.

            Another prominent case which he will continue hearing from tomorrow is that of the former MCA for Riruta in Nairobi County Mr. Samuel Ndung’u is jointly charged with 2 other people with murder of his estranged wife Lucy Njeri.
