Jumwa to spend three days in police cell

Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa and her aide Geoffrey Otieno will spend three days in police cells pending psychiatric examination on Wednesday.
Judge Njoki Mwangi on Monday ordered that the two, who are facing murder charges be remanded at Port police cell in Mombasa before being presented for mental assessment at the Coast General Hospital.
Jumwa and Otieno are facing charges of causing the death of Gumbao Jola during the Ganda Ward by-election in Malindi constituency in 2019.
The office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) last week approved a murder charge against the MP and her bodyguard.
Mombasa Senior Magistrate Vincent Adet on October 17 last year released the duo on a Sh1 million bond after police failed to prefer charges against them.
Mombasa Assistant DPP Alloys Kemo had earlier pleaded with the court not to grant the two bond as they ignored summons to undergo mental examination last week.
Justice Mwangi said the bond issued at the lower court was an anticipatory bond and as such not applicable to the current case.
Jumwa and Otieno will be brought to court on Thursday to answer to the murder charge.
