Storm Wreak Havoc in  Marsabit

At least two people were injured while property of unquantified value was lost after a heavy down pour hit parts of North Horr Constituency in Marsabit County on Saturday night.

Marsabit North DCC Wesley Koech said the expected downpour left about 400 families displaced in Maikona location after their manyattas were brought down by strong winds before being swept away by raging floods.

Mr Koech said the injured who were two children were rushed to Maikona health centre before being transfered to Kalacha level 4 hospital.

The DCC said the children aged 5 and seven suffered serious injuries on the head and a broken leg but their condition was sable.

He added that the storm swept away more than 1000 goats and sheep adding that teams that include local chiefs and the Red Cross society have been dispatched to the area to take stock of the trail of damage left behind by the storm.

Other areas in North Horr constituency like Bubisa experienced the downpour but with less destruction.

Mr Koech pointed out that the rainy season was around the corner and advised residents living in the lowlands to move to higher grounds.

The administrator said the government would intervene to assist the victims. The displaced families have since moved to a local ECD centre and dispensary without shelter and food and are in dire need of urgent humanitarian aid.
