Murang’a Youth Protest Over Kenol skirmishes

The youth in Murang’a today  staged a peaceful demonstration demanding those who perpetuated chaos in Kenol town on Sunday to be apprehended.

The youth claimed that since the incident happened, no one has been arrested in connection with the chaos that left two young people dead.

Led by a number of local MCAs, the youth requested local security officers to hasten investigations and let those who planned the skirmishes face the law.

On Sunday, chaos were  witnessed in the town before a fund-raising occasion that was graced by deputy president William Ruto.

A nominated MCA Wambui wa Njoki told young people to avoid being used by politicians who want to advance their political mileage.

Njoki condemned the incident saying it was very disheartening to see two lives lost in the chaos that rocked the town.

“We lost young lives in the chaos and as young people we don’t want such an incident to happen again in Murang’a,” added Njoki.

His sentiments were echoed by Gaichanjiru MCA Moses Murigi who said politicians should provide employment to thousands of jobless youth instead of using them to cause chaos.

Murigi accused the leaders behind the fracas saying among those who died was a boy of 15 years. “families of those who lost their loved ones are crying and that’s why we have organised this demonstration carrying an empty coffin to stress that we don’t want another death to be witnessed in this county through political clashes,” added Murigi.

Mwaura Mugana a member of Murang’a peace and governance forum, told politicians to avoid engaging innocent young people in causing chaos.

He said the state of joblessness should not be used as a way of engaging youth in dirty politics, saying political skirmishes were putting youth lives at risk.

Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai summoned Nyoro and Wahome to appear before the regional police commander in Nyeri and record statements, summons which the two vowed not to honour.

Murang’a south deputy county commissioner Mugania Mawira said investigations are still going on and soon those who planned the chaos will face the law.

While addressing the youth, Mawira said security agents will continue maintaining peace in the area.
