Calls to Document Achievement of Athletes for Posterity

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has called for the documentation of all athletes in the country for posterity.

 

Balala who spoke Saturday in Nandi while on a tour of the Eliud Kipchoge stadium and Training Complex said in honour of Kipchoge and other athletes, the Ministry in conjunction with the Kenya Tourism Board would document the athletes in the next one month.

 

“We are here to honour Eliud Kipchoge as we celebrate his exemplary achievement as the world’s best marathoner and also tour the sports facilities in Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties and ascertain their status,” said Balala.

 

The CS was accompanied by Tourism PS Safina Kwekwe and her Wildlife counterpart Prof. Fred Sigor, Chief Administrative Secretary Joseph Boinett and officials from the Kenya Tourism Board.

 

Nandi Governor urged the national government to recognise the athletes who carried the country’s image worldwide.

 

“As a county we pride in our athletes. Already, the construction of stadium and a training complex in honour of Eliud Kipchoge is ongoing,” said Sang.

 

The CS also visited Sergoit view gardens where he opened the facility for use as a tourist attraction in Uasin Gishu County.

 

He also toured Kamariny Stadium and Lorna Kiplagat training camp in Elgeyo Marakwet County where most athletes from the North Rift region trained.
