Selected schools to get desks from the government

Bomet County Commissioner Ms Susan Waweru has appealed to the youth who will be allocated tenders to supply schools with desks to follow the laid down procedures.

Ms Waweru warned that those who supply desks which are sub-standard against the specifications provided by ministries of Education and Interior, will lose their benefits.

“The government has supplied specifications which can be obtained from the Deputy County Commissioners (DCC) and in all sub county education offices, therefore, there shall be no excuses for supplying sub-standard desks,” she stated.

Ms Waweru was speaking at Bomet County headquarters Wednesday, when she added one week for prospective suppliers to register their workshops and submit documents.

“As you are aware, President Uhuru Kenyatta directed this stimulus project to be given strictly to the youth and those in the rural areas, the reason we are extending the submission of documents for pre-qualification,” she said.

The County Commissioner was accompanied by the region’s director of education Mr Indiatsi Mabale who said that 5,254 desks will be supplied to selected public secondary schools and 5,390 desks for primary schools.

“We have earmarked 15 primary schools in every sub county and the equivalent number for selected secondary schools,” Mr Indiatse said, adding that this was a pilot stimulus project for the financial year 2020/2021since the outbreak of Corona- virus pandemic.

He said that the teachers will be guided on how to handle the learners in the new normal in the post Covid-19 learning processes.

“Apart from the public health issues, the government is preparing to supply the desks ahead of the formal reopening of all schools countrywide,” he assured.
