County launches construction of a maternity ward

Over 5000 women in Emuhaya Sub County are expected to access better maternity services from April 2021.

This follows the launch of a 35 bed capacity maternity ward at Ebusiratsi Health Center by Governor Wilber Ottichilo.

Ottichilo said that once complete, the facility expected to be handed over to the County Government in six months, will help reduce the distance some women in the region are forced to cover in search of maternity services.

Stressing the commitment of his government to better health services, the Governor promised that plans are underway to erect a storey building which will house male, female and pediatric wards besides a modern laboratory at the facility.

Meanwhile, Governor Ottichilo hailed healthcare workers and community health volunteers for the improved health service provision at the facility terming it a selfless sacrifice.

His sentiments were echoed by the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Health Dr. Amos Kutwa who said that community healthcare workers in the region have done an excellent work which has seen primary healthcare services being strengthened.

Health Services Chief Officer Mary Susan Anyienda promised that construction of the maternity ward estimated to cost Sh 5.5 million will be fast tracked to ease congestion in the existing ward.
