Anti-corruption officers arrest KPLC staff

Two employees of Kenya Power Company and a sub-contractor in Kitale were Wednesday arrested by Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission officers for allegedly receiving a bribe of Sh5, 000 to reconnect power.
The three, David Kipngetich Bett and Dennis Sabai Juma and a sub -contractor Allan Barasa were arrested after they asked for a bribe from a client that they had disconnected power from Grassland estate in Kitale town.
Speaking to the press in Kitale, the owner of the house Evans Maelo said that the power had been disconnected following illegal connection.
According to Mr. Maelo, his house was disconnected from power on October 22 for allegedly having illegal direct connection of power.
“After the disconnection, I visited Kenya Power offices but the officers demanded for a bribe before reconnecting power in my house … it is at this point that I reported the case to EACC who laid a trap,” he said.
When contacted for comments, area manager Mr. Daniel Tido denied knowledge of the arrest.
Trans Nzoia County police Commander Samson Ole Kine whoever confirmed the arrest of the three adding that they were released on cash bail of Sh20, 000 each.
“The three will be appearing in court on December 19th to answer charges of receiving a bribe contrary to the law,” he said.
