Elgeyo Marakwet County government is in the process of automating its health facilities in its efforts to standardize delivery of health services.
Governor Alex Tolgos said with the automation, the hospital management will be able to track distribution of drugs, enable residents to know the drugs in stock in addition to tracking the time taken in a health facility.
Tolgos noted that availability of drugs and time taken in hospitals is key in the delivery of health services.
“Public perception on the waiting time by patients at health facilities, referrals to other health facilities and drug shortages indicate inadequacies in the operations and management of public health facilities and drugs management processes,” the governor said.
Speaking when he launched the second action plan under Open Government Partnership (OGP) in an Iten hotel, the governor said with automation which he expects to be in place soon, patients will also be able to know which specialist is in which facility before seeking services.
Saying that his government was committed to empowering youth, women and people living with disabilities, the governor said his government will streamline flow of information to the special groups in addition to giving them a special chance to address their issues.
The acting director procurement, Ms. Selina Kipsang said the county had developed a simplified procurement manual with simple steps which can be easily followed and enable all to access tenders in the county.
The governor added that as chair council of governors ICT committee, he was working closely with the ministry of information to extend Internet services to Sub-counties and wards through the fiber optic to enable residents access online services.
