Jubilation as top school in Mavoko celebrates win

The school fraternity of Star Sheikh Academy in Mavoko sub-county of Machakos celebrate the released KCPE results. Being held are school’s top students

There was song, dance and jubilation at  Star Sheikh Academy in Mavoko sub-county of Machakos Monday evening as the school fraternity celebrated its success in the just announced Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results.
The elated staff and students, most of them comprising form four students sitting for their final exams at the academy could not withhold their joy following the school’s outstanding performance where the top student emerged with 433 marks.
According to the school head teacher Mr. Joshua Jumbo, the school which emerged top in the sub-county attained a mean score of 378 out of 500 marks, an improvement from 2017’s mean score of 373 marks.
Jumbo who was speaking to the press in his office Tuesday said 208 candidates sat for the exams.
“34 of them scored 400 marks and above with the rest scoring between 300-399 marks. None of them scored 200 marks and below,” said Jumbo.
He attributed the school’s outstanding performance to the student’s hard work coupled with good rapport between the teachers, students and parents.
The top candidate, Michael Mumo, aged 13 attributed his success to hard work adding that he wants to join Alliance High School to realize his dream of being a doctor.
Speaking to the press, the Mavoko sub-county Director of Education Mr. Simon Mutemi said the overall performance of the sub-county was good, with no cases of exam cheating being reported.
