Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has asked political leaders to exercise politics of integrity and avoid utterances that may indulge the country into chaos.
Speaking in Murang’a when he attended the burial of Gaitheri Ward MCA Cyrus Kiiru Mbembe on Friday, Mudavandi observed that some utterances by elected leaders may spark conflicts among communities.
He reflected that 2007 post-election violence which left more than 1, 400 people dead was sparked by careless utterances and incitements by politicians.
He spoke citing recent disrespectful utterances to the First Family by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and his Emurua Dikir counterpart Johana Ngeno.
“After 2007 I was among those who were entrusted to seek peace in the country and I do not wish to see this country go back to chaos like witnessed in the country then,” he added.
The ANC leader asked Kenyans to reject leaders out to create animosity among themselves and instead embrace peace for the country to move forward economically.
“We may have different political stands but that does not mean engaging into politics full of insults and incitement. Let’s all work together as leaders and criticize each other positively,” added Mudavadi.
On revenue sharing formula, the ANC leader asked senators to hasten in agreeing so as money can be released to counties.
He added that functions at counties are grounded and locals are suffering since crucial services are not offered.
“Senators should stop taking Kenyans in circles. Let them agree on which formula to use so that counties can get funds. Am for the formula which considers population as a key factor in sharing of revenue but other parameters need to be considered also,” he added.
The former Vice President further asked the president to continue with the current fight against corruption saying the vice has affected the country’s economy.
“Our country is in huge debts and this may affect growth of our economy. Currently exchange of a dollar to Kenyan shilling is at Sh. 104. This is due to debt the country has borrowed,” he added.
On his part, Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata said he will not relent until revenue to counties is shared in accordance to population.
Kang’ata said counties with big population have for long suffered as funds given cannot effectively support delivery of services.
The county women representative Sabina Chege on her part urged leaders to shun divisive politics and embrace each other saying it was not yet time for 2022 politics.
Chege said leaders should avoid dragging the family of the first family into politics saying Mama Ngina Kenyatta has never been involved in politics.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro asked Mudavadi to work with deputy president William Ruto so as to ascend to power come 2022.
Nyoro lauded Mudavadi for doing peaceful politics saying he is needed in the future government.
Leaders present eulogized Gaturi MCA Mbembe as fearless and someone who was determined to represent his people in the local county assembly.
